The collection „Grandma and the sea“ combines the love for the sea and the passion for knitting. The photographic recollections of the sea and the patterns from Ruhnu gloves and stockings are knitted into clothing.
The author’s wish is to bring to greater prominence the Ruhnu traveling stitch patterns, originally knitted on ultra-fine needles. Ruhnu was picked because it is the island furthest from the mainland and the voyage over helps to compensate for the longing for the sea.
With this collection, the author wishes to pay tribute to her grandmother, who has left a legacy of beautiful patterns and knitting skills. All the garments are hand-knitted from yarns of varying gauge, with wool and mohair as the main composition.
