The collection “Myllypuro” is inspired by the culture and architecture of Helsinki’s suburbs. Inger lived in Helsinki during the COVID-19 pandemic and spent a great deal of time walking around the city and exploring suburban streets. While Helsinki is known for its colorful and richly decorated Art Nouveau architecture, neoclassicism, and striking contemporary buildings, Inger was most captivated by the suburban areas—with their vast forests, massive rock formations, and unusual upward-reaching silhouettes.
She translates the constructivist and futuristic architectural style characteristic of water towers into fashion design. While exploring Helsinki’s suburbs, she discovered that Finland has nearly 500 water towers. These unusual structures, reminiscent of UFOs, fascinated her deeply, inspiring her to incorporate this feeling into her work.
The collection is made using Estonian native sheep wool and recycled cotton materials. In her creative process, she makes use of various unused materials found around her.
Inger Tammela participated in the festival in 2023.
