Johanna Tuisk approaches her work through material and its tactile qualities, exploring ways to use traditional materials in a new yet timeless context. Her collection “Maakarva” focuses on the wool of Estonian native sheep, highlighting its natural tones—from white to grey and brown—which cannot be achieved through dyeing. The knitwear in the collection is made from carded yarn produced by the Vaemla wool factory and created in a way that reduces material waste—each piece is knitted directly to shape. The felting technique makes the knit denser and more durable, enhancing its suitability for the local climate. The minimalist garments are designed so that the natural structure of the material and its contact with the body become an essential part of the wearing experience.
