Mulgi Fashion Rags
Mulgi Fashion Rags focuses in her work on the traditional Mulgi kortspersega kaltsad — long linen or woollen trousers distinguished by generous gathering at the back. The collection reinterprets this folk garment element in a contemporary key, altering the cut of the trousers or adding new details while always preserving their characteristic form. The aim is to bring this historical garment back into everyday use and to spark interest in the clothing heritage of the Mulgi region.
Designer Kairi Orav’s work is closely tied to community engagement and the sharing of craft skills. Sewing circles held in Setomaa teach traditional and zero-waste pattern cutting, repair garments and encourage participants to experiment with elements of national dress. The work draws primarily on natural and pre-existing materials, supporting both the continuation of textile heritage and conscious, resource-aware garment making.
Mulgi Fashion Rags
will participate in the OmaMood Fashion Show in 2026.
