Mari Saffre explores the intersections of folklore and contemporary fashion design in her work. Her collection “Kadristik” reinterprets the traditions and mythology of kadrisandid—the Estonian Martinmas masquerading custom—through a contemporary lens. The garments appear as though they could belong both to the masqueraders themselves and to ancestral spirits embodied among them.

The designer uses wool sourced in Estonia, which reaches her as a by-product from a local farmer, and weaves the fabrics herself on a loom. In this way, the materials are created with a small environmental footprint and transparent origin. “Kadristik” brings together traditional craftsmanship and folk motifs with contemporary fashion, inviting reflection on the meaning of clothing in both everyday life and ritual moments.
