“un.said”
Actors tell stories using their bodies, writers use words — but how can a story be told through material?
The collection “un.said” is an interpretation of Jan Guillou’s young adult novel “Evil” and the Endla Theatre production of the same name. The novel is divided into distinct parts that reflect the protagonist’s life from childhood to graduation. How do the protagonist and evil relate — or fail to relate — to one another at different stages of life?
As a designer, Sigre Kodasma gives these parts visual forms, which she uses in creating garment shapes. What is the shape of fear? Of violence? How can embodied evil be expressed? What about hope and freedom? One of the main materials used to express these emotions is a PVC banner from the theatre production. The collection explores how material can contribute to storytelling — how emotion can be folded, torn, cut and sewn out of material.
